About Our Team
Smart Pear is a part of Kraken Technologies Ltd that provides, among other things, the means by which Kraken communicates with smart meters via the DCC.
We’re looking for a Junior Developer who is passionate about understanding complex business problems, developing code-based solutions, and maintaining these solutions to provide excellent service and support.
You'll be joining our team to help manage the DCC Adaptor on an ongoing operational basis, as well as addressing future challenges as we extend this technology to other energy industry customers.
While this role may seem challenging at this stage, we understand that there is a lot to learn in this space, and we are committed to providing the training and support you need to thrive.
What You'll Do
- Work day-to-day in a cross-functional team with various stakeholders (developers, PMs, users, clients) to understand and analyze current issues and requirements, and assist in the development of solutions.
- Undertake a range of technical and security-related tasks, including process design, architecture, coding, testing, and deployment.
- Provide support to customers and other tech teams within Kraken.
- Refine and contribute to our design process documentation, and explore new design processes with the team where possible.
What You'll Have
- Knowledge/experience working with Ruby.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Understanding of design and analytical approaches such as sequence diagrams and use cases.
- Familiarity with AWS and cloud-based architecture.
- Experience using project management software like Asana or Jira.
- Knowledge of the agile process and organising work with tasks.
Bonus Experience:
- Familiarity with the GB energy market and smart metering.
- Experience with programming languages such as XML and JSON.

We would prefer someone who can work in our London office (1 or 2 days a week) but will consider remote candidates for some of our teams. However, you do need to be able to work in the UK.
