We are building the world’s largest plant to produce green ammonia at scale, providing humankind with a cost-efficient solution that will accelerate the worldwide green hydrogen economy. Located in NEOM and supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, NGHC will be integrating up to 4GW of onshore solar and wind energy to supply up to 650 tons of green ammonia per day for transportation globally. Operations will go onstream in 2026. Division: Power Elements (PWE) Operations
Reports To: Engineering Director
Liaise/Cooperate With: NGHC PWEs O&M Team, OEMs, Contractors, APEPC Team, EPMS Team-NGHC EHS Team, GHE O&M & EHS Team.
POSITION SUMMARY
Process Control Scada Engineer shall be responsible to maintaining the performance and safety of plant personnel and assets, optimizing SCADA systems, and implementing continuous improvement measures. The main objective to ensure safe, reliable & efficient operation of solar PV plant, wind farm, BESS and EPMS by ensuring the safety of plant personnel and plant assets.
NATURE & SCOPE
The main functions of this position are:
- Oversee and manage the SCADA system to ensure reliable data acquisition, monitoring, and control of the project PV plant, Wind farm, BESS and EPMS.
- Conduct plant performance monitoring and analysis to identify key improvement areas and optimize performance according to O&M KPI benchmarks.
- Escalate critical system information to relevant teams or departments promptly, following the established communication matrix.
- Support predictive maintenance through data analytics, identifying trends and potential issues to reduce downtime.
- Ensure cybersecurity measures are implemented in the SCADA system, complying with regulatory standards to protect plant operations.
- Actively participate in plant O&M activities, Commissioning activities & safety compliance workshops.
- Enthusiastic to propose the Continuous improvement suggestion to keep elevating & enabling the best plant O&M practices.
- Plant Performance reporting & Its analysis. Deriving the key improvement area along with O&M team to optimise the Plant performance as per plant O&M KPIs benchmarking.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
Quality Operation Practices:
- Ensure that the team be able to monitor, maintained & restore the generating stations i.e., Inverters within the minimum time frame by performing necessary, appropriate & correct troubleshooting methods in line with OEM recommendations.
- Responsible for Preparation & review of plant Standard Operating Procedures, Energization/ De energisation switching sequences.
- Ensuring the system fault/incident log are maintained properly with a proper corrective action perform by maintenance team on daily basis either the in the CMMS system or manual.
- Responsible to propose continuous improvement programme, which is contributing to wards safe, reliable, productive & cost-effective O&M practices.
- Extend his support & supervise his team closely to enable & ensure that the best O&M practices are being followed & well executed.
- Ensure that the maintenance team is continuously adhering to optimum response time towards a corrective action notification raised by SCADA team.
- Supervise & support the commissioning activities to be performed in compliance with approved procedures, method statements & risk assessment. Raise the punch point if any compliance deviated from its actual standards.
- Ensure that the Maintenance are performed with proper simulation checks & verification after every maintenance to ensure the equipment operational healthiness before Energization.
- Responsible to organize & participate in the root cause analysis workshop for Plant issues.
- Proactively Identify the Operational risks & share with them with management to have appropriate mitigation plans in place.
- Coordinate & provide the necessary data & documents to Engineering team for analysis & review whenever requested.
- Conducting Monthly review meeting with operation & maintenance teams to retrospect & discuss the O&M philosophy & performance key points.
- Responsible for plant performance reporting & analysis.
- Responsible for generating the required performance & monitoring reports as per reporting matrix.
- Responsible to maintain the Plant Operation KPIs benchmarking.
- Perform frequent surprise site audit to verify that the O&M practices are being performed rightly by site team as per standard procedures.
- Ensure that every site activity is executed with approved procedures (SOPs), WMSRA, Risk Assessment (RA), check list (if needed) or any other supporting document if recommended.
- Familiarize & guide the operation team for effective usage of the Plant CMMS system to build the historical data base for real analytics.
- Ensure the proper execution of shift handover all the information; data & records has been Passover to next shift with complete details & accuracy. No communication gap should evolve during shift handover.
- Proactively involve in finding the gaps in plants performance in coordination with another PWEs & Engineering department.
- Responsible for re-verification of LOTO in critical maintenance works; before any PTW is approved by operators.
- Responsible to respond on time for any emergency call outs requirements.
Advanced SCADA System Management:
- Oversee SCADA system configuration, programming, and troubleshooting, ensuring that data acquisition, monitoring, and control processes are functioning optimally.
- Implement and optimize SCADA network communication protocols to ensure reliable data flow between field devices and central control systems.
- Develop customized scripts and logic within the SCADA system to automate responses to common operational scenarios, reducing manual intervention.
Data Analytics and Performance Optimization:
- Utilize SCADA-collected data to identify trends, perform predictive analysis, and forecast potential equipment failures or performance degradation.
- Lead the development of dashboards and visualizations within the SCADA system to provide actionable insights for real-time performance monitoring.
- Integrate artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) tools for predictive maintenance and operational efficiency.
Cybersecurity and System Integrity:
- Collaborate with IT to implement and maintain cybersecurity measures within the SCADA and control systems, ensuring data security and protection against unauthorized access.
- Conduct regular SCADA system integrity checks and participate in audits to ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards.
SCADA System Upgrades and Modifications:
- Evaluate and implement SCADA system upgrades or expansions as required by plant operation changes or new technology adoption.
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors for the commissioning and testing of new SCADA functionalities.
Incident Management and Root Cause Analysis:
- Lead response efforts to SCADA-related incidents, coordinating with maintenance teams to restore normal operations promptly.
- Document incidents and conduct root cause analysis within SCADA systems to determine the underlying causes and develop preventive strategies.
SKILLS / TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AREAS:
- Professional in Microsoft Operating System (MS office).
- Mechanical or Electric/Electronic components fundamental knowledge.
- Must be able to describe the Plant Performance Issues in short & effective way.
- Advanced SCADA Systems and Automation
- Data analytics, trend analysis, and visualization for performance optimization.
- Use of AI/ML algorithms for predictive maintenance and equipment health monitoring.
- Network configuration (IP addressing, subnetting, VLAN) for SCADA communication.
- Troubleshooting network/device connectivity issues within SCADA.
- Knowledge of Solar Inverters System, Solar Tracking System & Substation Operation & Maintenance preferably HV/MV GIS substation.
- Deliverables on Time, Leadership & Adaptability: - Be Enthusiastic & energetic to provide required deliverable within the time frame with quality standard.
- Lead & guide his team in line with company objectives & deliverables.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical or Electromechanical Engineering with minimum 6 years of experience in Leading the Scada team within a solar plant capacity greater & equal to 100MW & minimum 4 years managerial experience in the same field.
- 4 years’ experience in power plant Scada installation, commissioning and operation and maintenance of utility-scale solar power plants with minimum size of 200 MW.
DESIRED EDUCATION and/or QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical or Electromechanical Engineering with 10+ years of experience in Leading the Scada team within solar plant capacity greater & equal to 500MW.
- 7+ years’ experience in maintenance of utility-scale wind power plants with minimum size of 500 MW
- 3+ years’ experience in development / construction of utility-scale solar power plants with minimum size of 500 MW
