Join Minviro: Help shape a more sustainable future
Minviro is at the forefront of the transition to a green economy. The technologies needed for this transition (such as batteries, magnets, and solar panels) are massively more energy-intensive to produce than their fossil fuel counterparts (such as combustion engines). Without consideration, the transition to green energy will not be enough to prevent climate catastrophe. Our goal is clear: to help companies in the energy transition understand, and reduce, their environmental impact.
As a growing startup with aspirations to become a leading name in environmental intelligence, our culture is shaped by ambition, collaboration, and constant innovation. Our team has expanded rapidly, doubling in size in 2022 and 2023, and we've recently opened new offices in Shanghai and Perth. This growth reflects our position as the most respected LCA consultancy in the energy transition sector.
We're now ready to take the next step on a journey, where technology plays a pivotal role in how we empower the energy sector with environmental intelligence. We’ve set an ambitious goal for software to be the primary revenue driver for the business by 2026, and want to build the team to help us get there.
The role
As a Sustainability Analyst with Minviro, you will work with the existing research and developing team to help us accelerate our company’s growth into new technology sectors and critical commodity markets. You will work closely with other members of the team (plus our technology and consultancy departments for overlapping projects) to deliver grant project outcomes alongside project teams, conduct research into technology or commodities of interest, generate internal LCAs related to these sectors, collate databases of LCA information, and produce research communications like whitepapers and journal articles. In particular, this role will be focused on decarbonisation technology and electronics manufacturing or engineering, ideally relating to magnetics, robotics and semiconductors.
What will you be doing?
The job role will consist of three major deliverable categories - conducting research work related to grant projects for ongoing Minviro commitments, investigating areas of interest to the expansion of the company not strictly related to grants or commercial activity, and supporting on database development related to the above. For this particular position, research activities will be focused on, but not limited to, magnet and semiconductor supply chains. Typical weekly tasks will include:
- Delivering project updates for ongoing UK and European-funded grant projects (with the current projects of responsibility lying in magnetics and electronics). Some interesting upcoming projects you may work on include:
- Photovoltaic manufacturing LCA
- End-of-life recycling LCA
- Water and land impact LCA
- Construction material LCA
- Establishing our footprint in the new sectors by researching existing LCA capabilities, generating new models and data, collating and storing information effectively, exploring grant and technology development opportunities, and attending events in this space to promote our services.
- Collaborating with industry and academic partners on research projects, delivering outreach programmes (webinars and events).
- Supporting commercial Minviro projects with knowledge transfer for commodities, technologies and methodologies of interest.
- Supporting Minviro software development via research outputs, data connections and integrations.
- Actively exploring new opportunities for Minviro via research, whether this be techniques and methodologies to incorporate into our business, new technologies arising in the decarbonisation sector, or transferring knowledge into products and services.
- Working closely with our marketing team to communicate interesting science and advancements in our activities.
In the
first 12 months, we would expect to see significant growth in the person filling this role as an LCA practitioner, effective teamwork with all aspects of our business, delivery of tangible outcomes from networking in existing and new market segments either as research/tech development projects or a lead generator for consultancy, successful task completion and deliverable achievement on multiple grant projects with support from the project leads, and demonstrable initiative to explore new opportunities for the individual and company itself, within the LCA space.
What we’re looking for (the essentials):
- Motivated by daily work reducing global environmental impacts via action.
- Experience within the technology, electronics and/or manufacturing, either academic or industrial, with a focus on environmental impacts.
- High quality example of research project delivery (thesis, dissertation or occupational project), in a relevant topic.
- Ability to communicate research findings via writing or presentations, ensuring knowledge is shared amongst the team and wider company, and consortium members within grant projects where applicable.
- Ability to work as a team - we are a small company with a large focus on collaboration, supportive mindsets and transferable skills/knowledge.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability/willingness to use project management software.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at one time, across a range of themes and applications, whilst having a balanced workload.
- Ability to work on own initiative, but with strong communication with project leads delegating task responsibilities
- Strong numerical modelling skills using large databases.
- Motivation to engage with external research bodies and environmental agencies, in person at conferences/events and online, to expand our network.
- Proactivity for personal development, both individually and within the job role
