As the Algo Trader, you’ll join the Digital Trading team and be at the pinnacle of SM&T’s automated trading infrastructure.
You’ll support the development and management of flow trading activities of SM&T’s automated trading infrastructure. The key task of this role is developing and implementing quantitative models to build your own energy trading strategies.
Looking after the Digital Trading estate, you’ll take responsibility for risk management of trading activity through active oversight of our systematic solution, understanding the end-to-end deal process and algorithmic landscape.
What You Will Do
You will be responsible for helping to improve algorithmic trading strategies and support existing strategies with others in the Digital Trading team using Python in the energy commodity space. This includes:
- Conduct research and analysis of large datasets to identify trading opportunities and trends in the energy markets
- Build new trading strategies under the guidance of the Digital Trading team
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of trading strategies and make adjustments as needed
- Understand and apply knowledge of market structures in which we engage
- Perform backtests to analyse results and optimise strategies
- Understand and apply knowledge of market structures in which we engage
- Advise on improvements and find workarounds around IT estate and processes
What You Will Bring
Whilst understanding trading and risk management is vital for the role (ideally commodities), you will need to be comfortable working in a dynamic environment of a rapidly growing business. You will have:
- A strong understanding and experience in financial markets, especially energy markets and the risk management
- Experience with data analysis and modelling working with large datasets
- Strong team player with ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Effective multi-tasker with great written and verbal communication skills
- Strong Python skills and background in statistics and probability theory
- Exposure to C# or any other programming is a plus
- Degree qualified in STEM or have equivalent experience
