Power Systems Consultant

STATUS: Full time (37.5 hours per week), Permanent.
SALARY: Competitive and based on experience and qualifications.
LOCATION: Cape Town, with occasional travel to client offices and power plants. Permanent or temporary residency in South Africa, not linked to an existing employment contract, is a requirement.
Duties And Responsibilities Will Include
- Grid impact and grid code compliance studies for power generation projects
- Power quality assessments/investigations
- Transmission and Distribution network planning
- Project management (financial and resource management)
- Maintaining relationships with existing clients and identifying and engaging new clients
REQUIREMENTS
Essential Requirements Include
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent)
- Familiar with, and ability to interpret, typical substation primary and secondary/control plant design drawings
- Experience of network modelling and analysis in DIgSILENT PowerFactory (PSS/E, ETAP or other software packages will also be considered)
- Experience performing grid code compliance studies, grid impacts studies and/or network planning studies.
- Knowledge of the South African transmission and distribution systems and South African Grid Code and current industry developments
Desirable Requirements
- Postgraduate degree (Masters or higher) in engineering and registration (or working towards registration) with ECSA as a Professional Engineer
- Experience performing insulation co-ordination, earthing, protection co-ordination or arc flash studies
- Data analysis skills in either Excel, Python or similar
- Scripting skills for automation of repetitive analytical work
- Experience as owner's engineer on energy or other infrastructure projects
THE POSITION
We are looking for a full-time consultant with experience in power system studies to join the TNEI Africa team to provide consulting services to the energy sector in South Africa and the rest of the African continent. You will need to be able to work fairly autonomously within a local team of around 10 engineers, with further support from the team based in the UK. TNEI offers the opportunity to work within an exciting and growing sector on a diverse range of technical, strategic and regulatory consultancy projects. TNEI employs consultants at Graduate, Technical, Senior, Principal and Specialist levels, and the candidate would be fitted to the most appropriate employment band based on their individual skills and experience.
