NES Fircroft are delighted to be partnering with an clean energy client looking to add a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Edinburgh, Scotland working on Hydrogen based projects.
The role will be contract based and requires a candidate to be based in Edinburgh full time. It will be for an initial 6 – 12 month duration and offers strong rate of pay outside of IR35.
Role & Responsibilities
The role of an Electrical Design Engineer is to deal with all aspects of design relating to production, R&D, procurement, service support and technical documentation of electrical systems within the clients Hydrogen Energy Solutions. As this role encompasses all facets of electrical design, it is the engineers’ responsibilities to ensure equipment designed is of the highest safety and quality standards and is on time within the project plan.
Duties
- Leading and taking ownership of electrical and control/instrumentation system design from concept to through to manufacture.
- Design to for both internal and external manufacture.
- Coordinate and communicate requirements to external manufacturers.
- Liaise across disciplines to develop effective integrated solutions.
- Expected to turn around and complete work packages within a timely manner.
- Take part in HAZOPs and contribute to LOPA’s.
- Contribute to the learning and development of more our more junior engineering talent.
- Design of electrical installations for various hydrogen systems
- Design and specify electrical equipment, including power distribution systems, motor control centres, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Generating electrical designs that are compliant with BS7671 and ATEX regulations.
- Working with other Engineering disciplines to provide an integrated solution.
- Preparation of Bills of Material and specification.
- Preparation of Technical file documentation and assisting with the O&M Manuals
- Ensure that the H&S, quality, and environmental procedures are followed.
- Maintain the projects ATEX documentation.
- Produce technical documentation for machine operation, testing and design.
- Effective understanding of project objectives and deliverables
- Specification and design of electrical installations up to 33kV
- Preparing technical/functional specifications for electrical equipment
- Develop control systems from concept through to final design, installation & commissioning.
Requirements
Essential Experience:
- Expert knowledge of electrical design packages such as Eplan or similar.
- Accurate generation of BoMs and electrical reporting such a cable scheduling, terminal line ups.
- Adept at system/circuit orientated layout of multiline diagrams.
- Proven experience of design in a manufacturing environment.
- Expert MRP and BoM Handling experience, and designs roles in the ECO process.
- Solid understanding of procurement and manufacturing stages of a design lifecycle
- Knowledge of ATEX Directive and Standards
- Working knowledge of relevant technical standards
- Excellent analytical and fault-finding skill.
- Detail Oriented approach to design.
- Proven experience Produce high quality, detailed control panel designs including the integration of PLC’s, HMI’s and Drive Systems
- Previous experience in a related industry, i.e. Process, O&G, Renewable Energy etc.
- Designing to comply with various earthing philosophies.
- Knowledge of functional safety requirements
- Understanding of HV distribution
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform electrical calculations, conduct system studies, and generate accurate engineering drawings.
- Ideally you will be degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Additional Requirements
- Experience with mechanical CAD packages would be advantageous.
