We are building the world’s largest plant to produce green ammonia at scale, providing humankind with a cost-efficient solution that will accelerate the worldwide green hydrogen economy. Located in NEOM and supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, NGHC will be integrating up to 4GW of onshore solar and wind energy to supply up to 650 tons of green ammonia per day for transportation globally. Operations will go onstream in 2026. Liaise/Cooperate With: NGHC PWEs O&M Team, OEMs, Contractors, APEPC Team, EPMS Team-NGHC EHS Team, GHE O&M & EHS Team.
POSITION SUMMARY
BESS Electrical Technician shall be responsible for operating & maintaining the 450MW Battery Energy Storge System (BESS) in NEOM region. The main objective to ensure smooth, reliable & efficient O&M practices in BESS plant by ensuring the safety of plant personnel and plant assets.
NATURE & SCOPE
The main functions of this position are:
Deliver best Operation & Maintenance practices for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) along with associated systems & sub systems in compliance with OEM recommendations and approved schematics.
Actively participate in plant O&M activities, Commissioning activities & safety compliance workshops.
Enthusiastic to implement & propose the Continuous improvement suggestion to keep elevating the best plant O&M practices.
Implement the developed O&M system strategies and practices to encourage continuous workflow improvements and increase the asset productivity, efficiency & lifecycle.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
Quality O&M Practices:
- & implement the recommended isolation/switching sequence & LOTO procedures for every operation & maintenance activity.

- to monitor, maintained & restore BESS system within the minimum time frame by performing necessary, appropriate & correct troubleshooting methods with quality practices in line with OEM recommendations.
- to optimum response time towards a corrective action notification raised by SCADA team.
- for necessary operation, simulation checks & verification must be performed after every maintenance to ensure the equipment operational healthiness.
- to required Quality Housekeeping practices which will be followed by every preventive or corrective maintenance activity.
- every Operation & Maintenance activity with approved procedures (SOPs/SMPs), WMSRA, Risk Assessment (RA), check list (if needed) or any other supporting document if recommended.
- to perform the detailed troubleshooting of any events/incident occur in the plant.
- every Operation & Maintenance activity with approved Permit to Work (PTW) & associated PTWs (If required).
- all Maintenance activity as resource mobilization plan to optimise the downtime of the equipment & perform quality maintenance.
- during shift handover all information; data & records has been Passover to next shift with complete details & accuracy. No communication gap should evolve during shift handover.
- should be aware of isolation & de isolation procedures, LOTO procedure & required isolation points for every plant equipment/asset.
- the contractor is delivering the required maintenance deliverable with quality as per scope of work under maintenance agreement.
- to effectively use the Plant CMMS system which will support to build the historical data base for real analytics for every asset.
- to respond on time for any emergency call outs requirements.
- & verify the quality maintenance work has been executed by subcontractor in-line with OEM recommendations & procedures.
- that required safety procedures are being followed by contractors during every maintenance activity.
- to Provide necessary support to subcontractor team in timely manner wherever required.
- time to time the Improvement suggestion to enhance the operation maintenance quality, feasibility, reliability, reducing equipment down time & unavailability.
- includes routine calibrate of instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability. This involves adjusting the instruments to match established standards and checking for any discrepancies.
- understanding of electronic & pneumatic system. Good knowledge to work with a variety of instruments such as gauge, transmitter, transducers, indicators, recorders, and controllers.
Spare Part & Resource Management:
- that the spare part storage condition is met in accordance with OEM recommendations.
- the information of any consumable/ spare part which running out of stock to shift in charge in time.
Reporting Matrix & Documentation:
- for every operation & maintenance document record must be duly signed & recorded properly.
- the subcontractor maintenance services reports & third-party intervention reports are recorded & documented properly.
Tools & Equipment’s Inspections:
- the tools & equipment inspections regularly as per schedule regarding working condition, calibration, suitability etc.as per check list.
- that the maintenance tools, equipment should be selected & utilised suitably as per maintenance activity.
Interdepartmental Communication & Coordination:
- & assist to other departments requirements time to time. This is to enable established O&M practices more reliable & effective.
- case of any incident or event responsible to strictly follow the established plant communication matrix.
HSSE:
- the O&M team & sub-contractors/ suppliers obtained PTW for each job and monitor them onsite for HSE compliances mitigations.
- Assist to review/ revise the task risk assessment (TRA) time to time.
- actively in emergency response plan as per approved ERP.
- in executing the emergency response drills.
- when needed in the HSE incidents/ accident investigation.
- PTW’s for all activities are issued as per approved WMSRA/ PTW/LOTO system.
- the isolations/ deisolation and LOTO applications are applied as per SLD/ switching sequence.
- specific PPE (e.g.: insulated gloves, Cat2, or Cat4 suits, vizor/ safety shield or insulated tools, long knobs testing equipment/ hot sticks etc.) are available & properly worn/used for all electrical work activities.
SKILLS / TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AREAS:
- in Microsoft Operating System (MS office).
- components fundamental knowledge for basic testing & troubleshooting analysis.
- of Battery Energy Storage System Operation & Maintenance philosophy.
- of different battery chemistry types & their maintenance strategy.
- of BESS technology challenge such as response time, battery discharging & charging cycles etc.

- be able to work on rotating shifts, call out, weekends and overtime (if required).

- on Time & Adaptability: - Be Enthusiastic & energetic to provide required deliverable within the time frame with quality standard.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- A high school diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering with minimum 3+ years of experience working with BESS plant capacity greater & equal to 50MW.
- Specialized in Battery Energy Storage System, MV/HV system Operations, Switching sequence preparations, Plant Performance report preparation & analytics.
- He must have a Sound knowledge on electrical system such as Power Transformers, BESS system, Substation (GIS), Inverters, RMUs, PV- technology etc.
