About The Team
The Responsible Business team at Freeths is focussed on all aspects of responsible business relevant to the firm, including key programmes such as D&I, Wellbeing and Sustainability and continued alignment with the B Corp standard. Led by our Director of Responsible Business, the team is comprised of subject matter specialists committed to managing Freeths’ impact on People and Planet and driving positive change.
We are now seeking to hire a
Sustainability Manager to work closely with the Director of Responsible Business and the team in order to enable continued development of our environmental strategy, complementing wider responsible business and culture change commitments.
About The Role
The Sustainability Manager will be responsible for implementing and managing Freeths' Net Zero Transition Plan, driving employee engagement in sustainability initiatives and helping ensure compliance with B Corp requirements. The role will require collaboration across departments to further embed sustainability into the firm's operations, culture, and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Net Zero Transition Plan
- Lead the implementation and ongoing management of Freeths’ Net Zero Transition Plan, ensuring measurable progress towards emissions reduction targets and relevant stakeholder engagement, including responding to client requests regarding our credentials.
- Working with the Facilities team and external partners to lead monitoring and reporting on carbon footprint, energy consumption, waste reduction, and sustainable procurement initiatives.
- Work with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure best practices in carbon reduction are implemented across the firm’s value chain.
- Employee Engagement
- Develop and deliver sustainability awareness campaigns, training sessions and engagement activities to encourage sustainable behaviours among employees.
- Act as the main point of contact for the Green Group of internal sustainability champions, supporting and inspiring local initiatives across the firm’s offices.
- Communicate sustainability progress and impact through internal and external channels.
- Embed opportunities for group volunteering in local communities supporting nature restoration.
- Environmental Compliance
- Oversight of key Environmental Regulation and disclosures including SECR and ESOS.
- Help maintain and update relevant policies and procedures to meet ISO 14001 and other relevant standards.
- Explore opportunities to obtain additional Environmental certifications.
- B Corp Certification
- Support Freeths’ wider project to maintain B Corp certification, ensuring compliance with the framework’s environmental standards.
- Implement additional measures required by the new B Corp standard in areas including Biodiversity, Circular Economy and Water Stewardship.
Your Skills And Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering sustainability and Net Zero strategies within a corporate setting, preferably in Professional Services.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Experience in developing and delivering behaviour change programmes related to sustainability.
- Excellent project management and organisational skills; ability to manage multiple workstreams.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills to track sustainability metrics and communicate progress.
