Salary: 60,000 – 70,000 (Dependant on experience)

Role Overview:
The SHEQ Manager will be responsible for implementing, managing, and maintaining Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) systems in line with industry regulations and ISO standards. The role requires strong knowledge of rail industry standards, ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001, as well as experience in leading SHEQ initiatives to improve performance and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain the SHEQ Management System in compliance with rail industry regulations, ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety).
- Ensure compliance with Network Rail and other relevant rail standards and legislation.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify and mitigate hazards and ensure continuous improvement.
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, implementing corrective and preventive measures.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to site teams and stakeholders on SHEQ matters.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and external auditors to maintain and improve SHEQ performance.
- Monitor and report on SHEQ KPIs, ensuring that all policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Drive a positive SHEQ culture throughout the organisation, promoting best practices and behavioural safety.
- Keep up to date with relevant legislation, industry trends, and best practices to ensure the company remains compliant and proactive.
- Lead initiatives to improve sustainability, waste management, and environmental impact reduction.
Key Requirements:
- 5 years proven experience as a SHEQ Manager or similar role within the rail industry.
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards and their application within the rail sector.
- Strong understanding of Network Rail standards and industry regulations.
- Relevant NEBOSH Diploma / NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent qualification).
- Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., IOSH, IEMA, CQI).
- Experience in conducting audits, risk assessments, and investigations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence and drive SHEQ improvements across all levels of the organisation.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
- Ideally you have around 5 years’ experience in a similar SHEQ management role, although other experience shall be taken into consideration.
- Chartered Member of IOSH
- Practitioner of IEMA
- Lead Auditor qualification in ISO 9001, 14001, or 45001.
- Familiar with Rail Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS)
- Experience of applying sustainability practices to achieve Carbon Reduction and Net Zero targets.
- Experience working with rail infrastructure projects, civil engineering, or construction.
- Knowledge of Behavioral Safety Programs.
- Experience in managing sustainability and environmental initiatives.
