What's the role?
As the Sustainability Coordinator you will work in SMS’s New Energy Systems (NES) department, supporting our customers in the management of their environmental sustainability. You will help to ensure effective communication, planning, implementation and monitoring of environmental programmes to achieve engagement, progress and evidence for continual improvements in sustainability.
The Sustainability Coordinator drafts communications, tracks actions, supports audits, reviews evidence and obtains feedback from specialists. This role will provide you an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in environmental management and engagement.
You will work with consultants and analysts within NES, specialists in other SMS departments (e.g. Bureau and Marketing) and stakeholders within customer’s operations and supply chain. This collaboration and oversight will enable the Sustainability Coordinator to develop your skills and knowledge to work with increasing autonomy to provide sustainability support to our customers.
You must be passionate about sustainability, with a keen eye for detail and excellent communication skills. This entry level role will enable you to rapidly gain experience with scope to take independent responsibility for new and existing projects, processes, and systems.
Contractual 40 hours per week Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.pm working from our Cardiff Office.
Key responsibilities:
- Represent the New Energy Systems department both internally to SMS and externally to customers and third parties. Produce high-quality client reports and Agenda setting and minute taking
- Engage with operational stakeholders in client organisations.
- Support the assessment of environmental aspects and impacts of client operations, products and services, using standard tools and templates.
- Assist the operation of ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standard management systems through document reviews, audits, scrutiny of environmental records, compilation of reports and co-ordination of audit and other compliance activity.
- On-site surveys, auditing customer operations against standard requirements with guidance and support. Customer reporting and query resolution and support organisations’ participation in third-party environmental sustainability frameworks.
- Manage the content and delivery of environmental communications (e.g. news stories and posters) and be responsible for supplying relevant business and wider environmental literature. As well as Co-ordinate and support the delivery of live engagement events, workshops and training sessions. Contribute ideas and administer staff engagement campaigns.
- Undertake data analysis to support assessment of environmental performance. Upkeep of action trackers and management system documentation.
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Degree or equivalent qualification or experience
- Specialist training or education in environmental sustainability (desirable)
- Understanding of environment and sustainability standards – e.g. ISO 14001, ISO 50001 (desirable)
- Developing policies, procedures, and forms for environmental management (desirable)
- Environmental audits (desirable)
- Excellent written and verbal communication to apply to report writing, the delivery of presentations, articles, posters and other materials.
- Ability to collate, interpret, quality-check and communicate specialist information, including cross-referencing for consistency.
