Job Title: Student Activity Leader

Reports to: Operations Officer – Groups & Young Learners
Contract Hours: Zero Hour Contract
Salary: £12.60 per hour
Purpose of the Post
An Activity Leader is required to give a warm Welsh welcome, friendly face and create memories for our students. Outside of the classroom we provide activities and experiences for students to engage with one another, give opportunities to improve and develop their English, build friendships whilst visiting new places in a safe environment.
We currently host half-day social activities during the week and a full- day monthly Saturday excursion. We are looking to increase the schedule which we offer to the students, so would like the postholder to be involved in this development. Throughout the year we welcome groups of young people, when we create a bespoke itinerary based on the length of stay and expressed requirements. Also, during the summer period we have a Young Adults Programme, which offers daily activities and excursions, which is delivered by the Activity Leader.
The Activity Leader needs to be confident communicating with learners of English, friendly, flexible and adapts to the needs of the business. Prepared to work during the day, evening and weekend as required.
Key Responsibilities But Are Not Limited To
- Leading organised local and regional activities and excursions to places of interest e.g. Bath, St Fagans, Caerphilly Castle, Bowling, Table Tennis or Golf
- Provide walking tours and share local information and facts for the day trip destinations
- Lead groups on public transport or pre-arranged private transfers
- Engage with external providers and attractions
- Responsible for the safety, well-being and safeguarding of students throughout the course of the activity or excursion
- Communicate clearly and with sensitivity for the needs of students for whom English is not the first language
- Communicate with the relevant personnel regarding any issues or incidents from an activity or excursion, via emergency number when out of hours
- Completing any relevant paperwork, session plans and risk assessments
- Being responsible for administering First Aid as required
- Be prepared to follow procedure in the event of a minor or major incident
- Supervising under 18s during breaks and lunchtimes when students are out of class
- Providing welfare support for students report any safeguarding concerns
- Help to deal with student enquiries, requests and grievances
- Welcome new groups of students at the point of arrival and help them meet their homestay provider, assisting them to their coach or get a taxi to where they are living
Professional Development
- The post holder will be responsible for their professional development through on-going training as provided by the company.
- The post holder will have to complete Prevent training, Safeguarding L1 training and First Aid as a requirement of the position.

The Following Skills And/or Qualifications Are Desirable
- Previous activity/group leader experience
- Sports, arts, music, drama or other recreational skills
- Experience or strong interest in working with international students
- Experience or strong interest in working with children or teenagers
- First Aid qualified or any similar relevant qualifications
- A standard B1 Driving Licence. Anything higher (e.g D1) is a plus.
