The energy industry is undergoing the largest transformation since industrialisation at an unprecedented rate of change and we are positioning ourselves to be at the heart of that change.
Our aim is to be the leading global provider of solutions that enable customers to release £30bn of value per annum from distributed energy resources (DERs). We are building a Software as a Service (SaaS) subscription business with a global addressable market of £2.4 billion per annum, by digitally connecting hundreds of thousands of DERs with energy markets.

We are seeking a Platform Engineer who is security-focused and skilled in AWS architecture, deployment, and management. This is a hands-on, creative, and collaborative position that is a full-time member of an AWS-focused agile platform engineering team. The position will work closely with our delivery and integrations teams to improve the overall security, quality and scalability of our product build, deployment and monitoring.
As a team, we work heavily with infrastructure as code and we also write software, so we're looking for a Platform Engineer with experience in Software Development, or a Software Engineer with experience in Platform Engineering.
What You'll Do
- Reviewing and upholding security across containerised services running on AWS and within Linux
- Actively reviewing and implementing resilience and continuity/DR planning strategies
- Implementing provisioning of production and dev environments for new clients
- Representing platform considerations through solution planning, design and implementation phases, standups, retrospectives etc.
- Migrating older environments (Docker Swarm) to our latest setup (ECS Fargate), without significant downtime
- Identify areas for cost controls and actively promoting cost reduction via automation (eg, S3 lifecycle policies)
- Documenting our system, both in terms of existing architectures as well as new things that we build
What You'll Need
- Experience or interest in NodeJS (preferably in Typescript) or another scripting language like Python
- Knowledge and experience with containerisation
- A depth of ability with developing and running production services on AWS (preferably with ECS Fargate)
- Familiarity with the basics of networking (VPCs/subnets/IP CIDR ranges), but experience with active design and provisioning of virtual networks would be even better
- Solid technical abilities in provisioning cloud infrastructure via IaS (preferably terraform, but cloudformation experience is also a plus)
- Experience in provisioning, managing and monitoring SQL and NoSQL database architecture, including backup/restore procedures
- Experience or interest towards improving security, resilience, and reducing vulnerabilities
- An appreciation of CI/CD principles, preferably with GitHub Actions experience
- Experience or interest in identifying opportunities to optimise cloud costs
- Ability to articulate the benefits and tradeoffs of technical solutions via spoken and written mediums to both technical and non-technical audiences
