The Head Coach for the women’s national team will be responsible for the leadership of a transformational coaching programme for the women’s senior national programme.
They will be passionate about women’s rugby and have demonstratable experience of developing a culture and environment where players can be at their best, ensuring systemic success for the national team.

The Person
Significant experience of working in a high-performance rugby environment at either international or elite level
Proven experience of co-creating a culture and environment of mutual respect, trust and support
Experience of coaching women or an understanding of women’s sport and adaptability in approach and style
Evidence of developing and implementing performance strategies that have facilitated success at a national and international level
High level understanding of systems that support high performance environments
The ability to create and embed a world-class high-performance culture and to lead by example
Experience in a senior leadership role, influencing strategic decisions leading staff to implement operational targets
Disciplined budget management. Able to prioritise available resources for maximum impact
Knowledge of WRU standards, expectations & opportunities. Ability to build successful partnerships and maintain and improve relationships.
The Role
Plan, organise and implement a comprehensive high-performance coaching programme for the Senior Women’s Programme
Direct, oversee and lead on field delivery through a sound coaching approach that recognises current international trends
Deliver individual player development through robust individual player planning and continuous constructive feedback
Monitor and evaluate player performance utilising relevant data to ensure standards are met and potential is maximised
Maximise the use of all performance staff within the programme to assist with the monitoring and development of players
Design, coordinate, implement, evaluate and record the effectiveness of all individual, unit and team developments.
Work with the U20 & U18 pathway lead in the development of the WRU talent development framework
Provide leadership and management to ensure all support staff are high performance and success focused
To support and contribute to the delivery of the women’s rugby strategy working with the Executive Director of Rugby and the Performance Director
Devise and implement the strategies for promotion and success of the national squad around key milestone international events with long-term sustainability at the forefront of all plans
Maintain productive, progressive and effective relationships with all stakeholders, including international bodies, rugby unions, clubs and regional staff
Support the recruitment of coaches and other management staff across the women’s programme when required
Create opportunities to support club coaches where possible to raise the standards and profile of women’s rugby across Wales
Support relevant off-field developments as agreed by the Executive Director of Rugby
Compile an end of campaign/season program review in conjunction with the Executive Director of Rugby and the Performance Director
Carry out duties in support of the WRU Group Strategic Mission, Purpose and Values
WRU Requirements
The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver's License is desirable. This role is subject to a basic/enhanced DBS check.
