Welcome to EMCCA
EMCCA is the UK’s first mayor-led combined county authority. The East Midlands is a great region. But it deserves to be better. Better connected, better funded and better prepared for a future of opportunity, growth, and hope. EMCCA will oversee devolved powers around transport, housing, skills and adult education, economic development, and net zero. We will conceive the strategies and create the connections that will empower local partners, people and businesses – maximizing the impact of billions of pounds of funding. Together, our new EMCCA team can put the East Midlands on the map as a place to live, work and study.
Your role in elevating the East Midlands
At EMCCA, we see the region’s economic future as located in green growth and decarbonisation. The green industrial revolution offers new global opportunities for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, including renewables, nuclear and hydrogen energy.
Green growth will be the centrepiece of the overall local growth plan. By developing and launching our green growth programme, you will make a key contribution to realising our ambitions for the East Midlands region.
We want you to oversee the development, implementation, and management of a range of green growth initiatives that will attract low carbon jobs, investment, and innovation. Critically, we will align the initiatives for a joined-up approach to improving sustainability and economic prosperity.
Your specific responsibilities will cover a mix of strategic planning, project management and stakeholder engagement – your success will depend on fostering strong relationships with government agencies, NGOs, private sector partners, and community groups.
Your profile
We are open to a range of different backgrounds, from consultancy and think tanks to local government and the not-for-profit sector. What you must have is a genuine interest in green energy and industry - and their role in economic growth. We are also looking for:
• A successful track record of programme delivery in the green economy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with evidence of building strong, collaborative, and enduring cross-sector partnerships.
• Experience of setting up and running large scale programmes of work at speed in challenging or complex stakeholder environments.
• The ability to adopt and/or translate the principles of inclusive growth in the context of the environment and green economy.
• The ability to manage multiple complex projects within statutory, constitutional and value for money requirements.
• Sound financial management skills and commercial awareness, with the ability to interpret and understand complex financial and budgetary information.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
