At ZeroAvia, we're clean sky thinkers. For the world to achieve truly clean, guilt-free flight, we need a scalable solution; hydrogen-electric powertrains. As a leader in zero-emission aviation and a UK Jet Zero Council member, we're designing and commercialising hydrogen-powered solutions that will positively impact the future of aviation, global connectivity, and the world.
You will become a solution-focused champion in our high-velocity culture. We value results and efficiency and prioritise achieving our mission most effectively and innovatively possible. You'll be part of our unified team to create solutions and solve problems, If you're eager to take radical ownership and are unafraid to ask questions or challenge the status quo, then we want you to be part of our Clean Sky Thinking.
Role Overview
The Structural Materials Group of ZeroAvia is working on the development of new materials and assemblies for Bi-Polar Plates (BPP) and gaskets in High-Temperature PEM (HT PEM) fuel cells. The result of the work may enable the application of HT PEM technology in a full range of aircrafts through use of the lightweight, electro- and thermo-conductive materials and their structures suitable for an extended range of fuel cell operation conditions. Meeting temperature and chemical resistance goals set the group at the cutting edge of technology as in in-house development in cooperation with materials partners. Being a part of this group, you will be responsible for technical activities on the development of coating and sealing materials and prototype application of these materials to protect bipolar plates and guarantee the gas tightness of the fuel cells.
This is a great opportunity for individuals to contribute and expand further their expertise in material science. The development field includes but is not limited to metal plating, protective polymer coating, elastomer sealing materials, and their application methods.
Responsibilities
- Run the laboratory experiments - formulate materials, prepare samples, set up and conduct testing, document the results, prepare reports, and communicate to the group or leading engineer.
- Analyse the results of the testing and propose further steps in laboratory activities to enhance the quality of the results or expand the data for better decisions on the technical program's evolution.
- Build and utilize knowledge of technical, product, and market information and understanding of project scope, expectations, and requirements to contribute to the development.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Support deployment of the new laboratory equipment and methods.
- Search, study, and implement best practices to increase confidence in the results and reduce the cost and time of standard laboratory activities.
- Organize and keep the laboratory space clean and safe for operation.
Requirements
- BSc in Chemistry, Material Sciences, Chemical Technology or other degrees with relevant and extended practical experience.
- Good organizational skills in managing their own workload.
- Competent level of IT Literacy (particularly with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Methodical in their approach to tasks, with good attention to detail.
- Possesses good technical and non-technical communication skills.
