Who we are
Heatio is a renewable energy-tech startup transforming the way energy is delivered around the world. We are looking for someone to help us build our SaaS data platform to provide a real-time digital twin of every home in the UK. We aim to a build a data platform that will connect to millions of residential homes and drive down the cost of bills and emissions at scale.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a Data Engineer to join our team. Ideally you’ll want to work in an iterative-product and customer-focussed environment, and relish the opportunity to work in a startup; helping us shape our team and processes alongside the product.
Role and responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain our data platform to support analytics, AI, and machine learning workflows using the latest best practices in Data Engineering
- Work in a cross-functional team comprising product owners and designers, full stack engineers, data scientists and platform engineers.
- Work with the Product team to shape requirements and turn the roadmap into production-grade solutions.
- Build pipelines and data integrations
- Be involved in shaping our data governance and security processes and tools
- Take an active part in improving our process, engineering principles and coding standards.
- Help to grow both our internal knowledge and skill sets as we scale.
- Input into and close collaboration with the emerging MLOps and ML Engineering practices here at Heatio
Experience
Our data platform is based on Databricks and Kafka using Python and Spark and that’s the only major requirement we have. We have a few other things that’s we're looking for and if you don’t tick all these boxes, we’d still like to hear from you!
- Proficiency in our platform stack: AWS, Kafka, Python, Databricks, Spark
- Experience in Data Engineering and possibly Machine Learning Engineering (MLOps) and/or Software Engineering
- Knowledge of Cloud platform architectures in AWS and using Terraform to deploy them
- Experience in using data tools such as:
- Data modelling (Kimball, Imnon)
- Orchestration tools - Apache Airflow / AWS Glue
- Warehouse and analytics tools (Spark, Athena)
- Any experience working with ML, Digital twins or Hardware integration
- Any work within the energy sector before, including Home Energy Management Systems will be a bonus.
