An internationally renowned biotech business requires a recent biological sciences graduate to join their R&D laboratory based near Swansea. Your focus as a Lab Technician will be to support the running and management of the R&D laboratories, assisting R&D staff with the development of both existing and new products.
This role will suit a recent graduate in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or similar – who is willing to join a progressive business and develop a successful career within an R&D laboratory environment.
Lab Technician responsibilities
- Assist in the day-to-day running of the laboratories including:
- Prepare media for use in various R&D projects and ensure stock levels of common media/reagents used by R&D staff are maintained.
- Ensure stocks of consumables are maintained and organised/stored appropriately.
- Managing hazardous waste disposal as required.
- Maintenance of laboratory documentation in accordance with the required scientific, regulatory, intellectual property and ISO 17025 requirements.
- Prepare, write and follow relevant laboratory procedures, SOP, and health and safety risk assessments as required.
- Assist in R&D projects across the R&D department including but not limited to:
- Microbiological and biochemical analyses.
- Product stability trials of existing products within the animal nutrition portfolio.
- Preparation of samples for mass spectrometry analysis.
- Method development for R&D projects.
- Using PCR-based techniques and associated bioinformatic analysis for the study of microorganisms and microbial communities.
- Collaborate and provide support to members of the R&D team.
Lab Technician requirements
- Degree-level qualification in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or similar.
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal teamwork and communication skills.
- Working knowledge and familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage personal workload.
- Holds UK driving licence and access to own car.
