Join the Health & Safety teams in Wales and ShortSea. We need a
Health, Safety and Environment Advisor to support the South Wales 5 ports regional teams. Provide technical advice and assistance to maintain and improve HS&E Management.
Core Responsibilities
- Champion proactive health, safety, and environmental behaviours within the local Ports, promoting safe practices and sustainability efforts.
- Provide guidance on HS&E matters, including ABP policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Coach and challenge Managers and Supervisors to improve their HS&E knowledge and capability.
- Promote and deliver regional safety campaigns and environmental initiatives.
Performance And Reporting
- Ensure timely closures of audit actions, Spot It submissions, and safety incidents.
- Deliver comprehensive monthly HS&E reports, including data trends and positive activity updates.
Incident Management
- Manage and coordinate local safety and environmental incidents using the SAP reporting system.
- Recommend and support remedial or preventative actions following incidents.
- Conduct thorough incident investigations and produce detailed reports with actionable recommendations.
Audits And Inspections
- Conduct internal audits of HS&E performance to ensure compliance with company and legal standards.
- Support HS&E committee meetings and management inspections, ensuring timely follow-up on action points.

About You
NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent and membership of IOSH/IIRSM/IEMA is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Organised, motivated, and able to work independently. Ability to build positive relationships and collaborate with collaborators up to management level. Strong understanding of HS&E legislation and risk management. Experience in internal HS&E auditing and incident investigation. Proficiency in using HSE management systems (e.g., SAP) and data analytics tools. Full UK driving license and willingness to travel within the region. Adaptability and responsiveness to changing operational needs. Familiarity with modern tools and techniques for promoting behavioural and cultural change in safety and environmental practices.
Ideal
- Experience providing HS&E support in a safety-critical organisation.
- Educated to a degree level in a relevant field or equivalent.
- Certification as an ISO auditor (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Demonstrated experience in sustainability and environmental impact reduction.
- Expertise in designing and delivering behavioural safety programs.
- Proven ability to manage external relationships with enforcement authorities and agencies.
