The SSL Level 4 l Data Analyst Apprentice, upon completion of their course, will be provided with an opportunity to progress onto a Level 6 Degree Apprentice in a similar field if they pass their qualification and are exceling in their role.

Hours: 37.5 Hours Per week, 21-month Fixed Term Contract
Salary: Apprentice Hourly Rate:
Age 18 to 20 - ( £17,000 per annum)
Age 21 plus (£24, 321.87 per annum) Grade B
The Data Analyst Apprentice will gain knowledge of data structures, technology and systems, data mining, coding and data analytics. Using tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI, these skills will be put to good use in supporting SSL’s vision for improved data collection, collation and interrogation.
Working with all areas of the business and alongside Directors, Department Heads, line managers and teams, as the Apprentice develops their skill, they will play a key role in translating large amounts of data into clear insightful business reporting, enabling SSL to make better predictions, review trends and maximise efficiency.
Applicants will need effective communication skills to develop a business partnering approach and over time they will develop skills to create solutions and reports to user specifications. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate inquisitiveness and creativity concerning data management, have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools especially Excel, experience of Power BI or similar and be familiar with coding.
Key Responsibilities:
It is recognised that during the Apprenticeship, skills will develop alongside practical experience and learning content. An initial learning phase will give opportunity to learn the business and be able to reflect on how new skills can impact.
Learning Phase
· Work closely with key stakeholders to understand, how specific business units operate.
· More generally, understand what data is managed by SSL, how it is currently analysed and gather feedback from end users to understand performance satisfaction levels.
· Collaborate with existing SSL colleagues using data analytical tools to identify high level information for SSL Strategic usage.
· Support in ad-hoc data management requests and offer guidance.
· Share best practice and learning from BSMHFT Data Analytics team.
· With Head of Finance, and Director of Operations, identify key projects and onward responsibilities.
The following tasks and responsibilities will develop during the Apprenticeship Programme depending on existing skills and phasing of taught content.
Data Production and Engineering:
· Perform statistical analysis, build and validate models from the data, using programming practices, and maintain data, tools and processes to implement robust data solutions for business use by SSL.
· Create and handle datasets for analysis. Use tools and techniques to source, access, explore, profile, pipeline, combine, and store data for business use by SSL.
· Identify and use an appropriate range of programming languages and tools for data manipulation, analysis, visualisation for business use by SSL.
· Make recommendations to decision makers to contribute towards the achievement of organisational goals.
· Designs, creates, controls and evaluates moderately complex subject matter.
· Understands technical publication concepts, tools and methods and how to use them.
- Obtains and analyses usage data and presents it effectively.
- Support Directors and Head of Finance to produce business informatics which aid strategic planning.
Project Management, Advice, Guidance, Training:
· Use project delivery techniques and tools to plan, organise and manage resources successfully to run data projects which achieve SSL’s organisational goals and enable effective change.
- Plan and prioritise own workload to ensure that agreed deadlines are met.
- Support and train staff on the use of Power BI and other tools, to encourage teams to develop their understanding of analytics and reporting.
- Actively maintains knowledge in one or more identifiable specialisms.
Communication and Relationships:
· Develop and maintain collaborative relationships at Strategic and Operational levels, with SSL Senior staff and our customers to clarify detailed content requirements.
· Actively listen, build trust with Directors, Senior Managers, and team members to establish client’s needs and meet their informatics requirements.
· Visualise data ensuring it tells compelling and actionable narratives for its audience.
Data Control Governance, and Security
· Work in accordance with software development standards, including security, accessibility, code quality, and version control in accordance with SSL and BHSMFT policy.
· Handle private data ethically and appropriately complying with GDPR regulations.
· Applies tools, techniques and processes to administer, track, log, report on change requests.
· Uses agreed procedures to publish content.
· Ensures SSL and Trust guidelines are followed and a culture of best practice is promoted regarding analysis and the clear presentation of reports.
· Apply change control procedures for standard, low-risk changes.
· Identify risks around the use of information. Recommends remediation actions as required.
· Apply and maintain specific security controls as required by organisational policy and risk assessments.
· Communicate security risks to Head of Finance or Director of Operations.
· Contribute to the identification of risks that arise from potential technical solution architectures. Suggests alternate solutions or countermeasures to mitigate risks.
· Supports investigation of suspected attacks and security breaches.
Innovation:
- Propose changes to working practices or procedures for own work area.
- Contribute to the recommendation of improvements identified utilising statistical information.
