JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an interdisciplinary researcher with expertise in biodiversity, environmental, or geospatial data science, and a strong interest in sustainable finance. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in handling and analysing large-scale datasets, particularly related to biodiversity and natural capital, and the ability to integrate these insights into financial contexts. They will thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with academic and industry partners as part of the EU Horizon Europe CircHive project. The successful candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, the ability to lead on data acquisition and analysis, and the capacity to translate complex research findings into actionable insights for investors and policymakers aiming to align financial activities with biodiversity conservation.
You will join an interdisciplinary team based in the Centre for Business, Climate Change and Sustainability at the University of Edinburgh Business School, the School of Geosciences and the Edinburgh Futures Institute, which pursues data-driven research and innovation for sustainable development. In return, you will work in a highly supportive and interdisciplinary team which works on cutting edge research questions at the intersection of climate finance, biodiversity and supply chains.
This post is full-time (35 hours per week).
Your Skills And Attributes For Success
- Expertise in Biodiversity and Geospatial Data Science: Strong technical skills in analysing large-scale biodiversity, natural capital, and geospatial datasets, including data acquisition, cleaning, integration, and statistical modelling.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a diverse, interdisciplinary team, bridging the fields of finance, environmental science, and data science to address complex research questions.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to troubleshoot data issues, develop innovative solutions for data integration, and conduct robust analyses that inform sustainable finance policies and practices.
- Communication and Dissemination: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to produce high-quality research outputs, including academic publications, reports, and presentations for a variety of stakeholders.
- Initiative and Leadership: Demonstrated capacity to lead on project tasks, such as dataset acquisition and testing, while independently driving research activities and meeting key project milestones.

About The Team
