Turner Lovell is seeking a skilled Project Engineer - Onshore Cable Installation to join a global HV cable manufacturer serving the energy transition, renewable energy, and electricity sectors. Our client has rapidly expanded, growing from a €100M turnover to a multibillion-euro business in just a few years, offering a unique opportunity to join their core team and support one of the fastest-growing markets in their global portfolio.
In this role, you will ensure that every installation project meets the highest standards of quality and safety. You’ll develop and implement methodologies that not only adhere to industry standards but also push the boundaries of cable engineering. Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cable system designers, subcontractors, clients, and engineering teams to develop safe and efficient installation methodologies.
- Influence structural and civil designs to ensure permanent installations comply with minimum cable parameters.
- Oversee all aspects of installation design for EHV cables, fibre optics, and AIS/GIS terminations for HVAC and DC systems.
- Coordinate earthing and bonding designs for onshore applications, with a focus on joint bays and substation termination points.
- Calculate cable pulling tensions, sidewall forces, and validate the selection of cable pulling and installation equipment.
- Validate backfill materials and coordinate with cable system designers to ensure compliance with cable ratings, with expertise in backfill types and quality control.
Ideal Background:
- Experience in high voltage onshore cable engineering, particularly in the 132kV to 525kV range.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and physical parameters related to cable installations.
- Knowledge of National Grid Design Management standards is desirable but not essential.
- Familiarity with CDM regulations and their impact on safety, constructability, and sustainability in UK projects.
- An innovative mindset to develop, implement, and assess new methodologies.
