Company Profile
Lineat Composites is developing a novel composite material recycling technology to full industrial scale and with it solve key problems in the high-tech manufacturing industry related to cost, productivity, and sustainability of carbon fibre composites. We are a clean-tech start-up based in Chepstow aiming to turn carbon fibre into the green material of the future with our novel water-based fibre alignment technology. We enable re-use of carbon fibre waste by creating a new aligned fibre feedstock material that can substitute virgin material and produce world’s strongest recycled fibre composite products.
Job Overview
Lineat is looking for a self-motivated Composite Research Engineer to develop material testing and manufacturing procedures for Lineat’s recycled material. You will be responsible for material testing, including sampling and characterising of aligned fibre material from different production batches. You will develop and validate new testing methods and establishing standard procedures to assess material conformance internally. You are expected to work closely with the CTO and production team to identify and resolve any non-conformance issue on Lineat material. Your responsibility also includes performing composite manufacturing studies and develop best-practise use guides for aligned fibre materials.
The ideal candidate is expected to have a good understanding of fibre composite materials and composite manufacturing methods, and have a wide range of skills from experiment planning and execution to statistical analysis and presentation of findings. You may also be required to work with the engineering and R&D teams more broadly to support ongoing research and development activities within Lineat. You will need to have ‘hands on’ experience within a start-up environment, able to work as a team as well as unsupervised on your own tasks.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead all material testing efforts in Lineat, from performing experiments to analysis and reporting of results.
- Develop and validate new testing methods to accurately and quickly confirm conformance of material produced.
- Perform composite manufacturing trials under varying processing conditions, map the effect on resulting composite material properties and develop best use guides
- Identify opportunities to enhance product quality, from production to manufacturing methods
- Actively work with Lineat production team, engineering team and R&D team on process and productivity improvements.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A degree in Engineering or material science is essential, with a MSc or PhD in fibre composites being desirable.
- Have two year of experience working with composite materials and have good knowledge of composite manufacturing processes, testing methods.
- Able to perform composite manufacturing and testing activities independently.
- Good operational and research skills, especially on new procedure development and data management.
- Be able to identify key manufacturing process variables that will impact performance of final composite parts.
- Effective communication with a variety of stakeholders at different levels from production staff to management and customers.
Lineat offers a competitive salary package combined with excellent growth and development prospects.
