Litmus Sustainability is a young and energetic North West consultancy supporting organisations of all shapes and sizes to thrive through low-carbon and sustainable practices.
We are now seeking an experienced and ambitious Carbon Advisor to join our growing, friendly team.
This role chiefly involves helping our clients by leading the production of high quality, insightful carbon reduction plans and strategies – from measuring and analysing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions to developing tailored & actionable recommendations.
This position includes account management responsibilities and building long-term, friendly relationships with our clients. Longer-term, this role is expected to progress to a more senior role including product development, quality assurance, and team management – while enhancing systems, technology, and workflows.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive carbon footprint assessments for a range of clients, including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions.
- Collect, analyse, and interpret client data related to emission sources such as energy use, travel, waste, and supply chain activities.
- Develop accurate and transparent carbon reports and communicate findings clearly – verbally and through the written word.
- Work closely with clients to create tailored carbon reduction plans, incorporating a deep understanding of their business operations.
- Provide strategic recommendations to clients based on data insights and sustainability best practices.
- Manage client accounts, building strong relationships and ensuring consistent and clear communication.
- Support clients in adhering to industry standards and regulations (e.g., PPN 06/21 compliance).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of carbon accounting methodologies and tools (e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 14064).
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate findings into broader sustainability strategies.
- Build and improve systems, technology, and workflows for enhanced project delivery.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, MSc desirable.
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in organisational carbon footprint calculations, sustainability consulting, or related account management.
- Proficiency with MS Excel.
- Proficiency with carbon accounting tools and software.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of current UK and international carbon reporting standards.
- Experience working with business clients.
Nice-to-have Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in managing teams, or an interest in developing towards a leadership role.
- Proficiency in Science-based Target setting.
- Good understanding of a broad range of carbon reduction measures and solutions.
- Knowledge of product carbon footprinting.
- Understanding of social value and broader sustainability-related fields applying to businesses.
- Proficiency in analytics and data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or similar.
- Broad knowledge of sustainability regulations and legislation applying to businesses in the UK.
