Shropshire Homes Ltd is looking to recruita Senior Housing Technician reporting to the Drawing Office Manager. The successful post-holder will work within the Technical department and play a major role in helping to shape our core housing range of the future.
Being a team player, with excellent communication skills you will be responsible for the production of house type working drawing packages, procurement of type approvals through NHBC and finalising our national construction specification documents. The role will involve co-ordination of structural engineering details and finalising a complete set of up to date standard detail packages that will be used across our entire business.
The successful applicant will require an eye for detail and will be encouraged to drive innovation and explore modern methods of construction to help our business going forward as construction methods and materials change and move toward carbon reducing technologies. Shaping our business for building regulation compliance with the New Homes Standard; whilst delivering accurate, innovative, yet efficient and easy to understand housing designs and construction details that allow our site teams to deliver high quality homes for our customers. Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret instructions from Heads of Department, Design Manager and Drawing Office Manager regarding the production of house type drawing packages including procurement of third-party supplier information and standard detail packages.
- Ensure drawing accuracy and their compliance with building regulation standards, planning policy and NHBC standards.
- Working closely with internal departments to procure third party information to optimise house type design and streamline the construction and procurement process.
- Production of Designers Risk Assessments and coordination of consultants Designers Risk Assessments.
- Discharge of building control related conditions to achieve NHBC National House Type Approvals.
- Assisting with procurement of non-standard house type designs and construction details where required.
- Comply with all Health and Safety requirements and Shropshire Homes Health and Safety Policy.
- Adhere to Shropshire Homes requirements in production and management of all technical information and liaison with external parties, local authorities, building control authorities and customer service, (internal and external customers).
- Be communicative and honest in approach; bring new ideas and challenge where appropriate.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- HNC or better in Architectural Technology or an Architectural related qualification
- Strong CAD skills with at least two years relevant CAD experience
- Knowledge of REVIT/BIM software and processes
- Fully conversant with Microsoft suite of programmes, Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
- Extensive experience in the production of construction related drawings
- Ability to take instructions or sketches and produce unambiguous drawings to a high standard of accuracy in an appropriate format, and to agreed timescales.
- Knowledge of the design and planning process and good design ethos, facilitate in place making through good housing design.
- Fully conversant with Building Regulation documents, NHBC Standards and familiar with Lifetime Homes and National Space Standards requirements.
- An understanding of structural engineering principles and familiar with briefing structural engineers.
- Problem solving and decision-making skills in line with level of responsibility, communication with the rest of the team, line managers and colleagues in other departments.
- Recognise and understand the importance of your own contribution to CDM and SHE in the workplace.
- Be customer aware and how the role supports good customer care, build quality and working collaboratively.
