Your Role
As Health, Safety & Environment Officer (Bus Franchising) you will ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards for Transport for Greater Manchester's bus franchising initiatives. Your role involves developing and implementing IMS processes, conducting audits, managing risk assessments, and advising on legal and regulatory changes. You will collaborate with bus operators and internal teams to maintain a strong safety culture, addresses non-compliance issues, and leads incident investigations. Who are we?
The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team within Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is responsible for ensuring the organization's compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards across all operations and projects. The team, which includes roles such as HSE Managers, Officers, and Coordinators, works to develop and implement safety policies, conduct audits, and manage risk assessments. The HSE team reports to senior leadership, through the Chief Networking Officer, ensuring that safety and environmental considerations are integrated into TfGM's strategic planning and daily operations.

The ideal candidate for the Health, Safety & Environment Officer (Bus Franchising) role you should have significant experience in a health, safety, and environment (HSE) position, preferably within a transportation or infrastructure environment. You must demonstrate expertise in developing and implementing safety management systems, conducting audits, and managing risk assessments. Experience in engaging and influencing stakeholders at various levels is essential, along with a proven track record of ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. A NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification is required, alongside continuous professional development in safety law and techniques.

This is a fixed term role of between 6 - 9 months and offers a competitive salary of between £39,360 - £43,817 per annum depending on skills and experience.
