NSF’s Oakdale site is the largest independent water fittings and materials testing laboratory in the UK. With over 80 years’ experience of water supply and distribution, NSF tests a wide range of products which come into contact with water, from taps and pipes to washing machines and showers.
We have an exciting opportunity for an
Analytical Chemist to join our materials testing lab and work on a variety of tests to help ensure materials used in the water supply network are safe for use.
You will be involved in all aspects of varied and challenging projects, from extraction/preparation to final report. You will also be involved in instrument maintenance and troubleshooting and method optimisation. Your responsibilities will also extend to data review and checking, compiling reports for external clients and liaising with them on any technical queries.
The ideal candidate will be a confident GC-MS user; preferably having gained experience from a regulated industry laboratory.
Responsibilities
Including, but not limited to:
- Oversee Regulation 31 leaching studies on materials and products intended to come into contact with drinking water
- Development of test methods and maintain accreditation to support service offerings
- Act as liaison between the laboratory and commercial clients to provide guidance, manage laboratory projects, and resolve technical issues.
- Evaluate and assess test data, write and authorising test reports
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience
- Experience in organic chemistry testing with GC-MS screening analysis
- Strong to communicate effectively with customers, lab staff, and leaders to accurately specify requirements and determine lab capabilities
- Ability to determine opportunities to develop capabilities for growth in commercial testing activities
- Strong understanding of relevant technical & regulatory requirements
- Experience working within an ISO 17025 testing laboratory or regulated environment
- Excellent communication skills (verbal/written)
- Must be fluent in English. Fluency in other languages is advantageous
