C&I Project Engineer - Renewable Energy

About the role
This is a unique opportunity for a talented Controls and Instrumentation (C&I) Project Engineer to contribute to our innovative projects in the renewable energy sector. You will finalise the design, installation, and commissioning of our Solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects, offering your expertise to our in-house construction team and EPC contractor to deliver our significant 1GW pipeline of Solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects that range from 5MW to 70MW.
You will be capable of designing solutions, reviewing system designs, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project technical compliance and timely delivery. This hands-on role will require excellent communication and influencing skills, the ability to analyse and resolve problems, and a proven history of leading multiple projects, documenting, planning, and executing programs.
To succeed in this role, you must be flexible, creative, resilient, adaptable, and self-assured in your knowledge and approach.
This hybrid role will require UK site work, some overseas travel for Equipment FATs, and the opportunity to work from home.
Job Outline
- Specification of up-front project Controls & Instrumentation (C&I) requirements across solar and energy storage systems; review and approval of submitted designs
- Define C&I, OT, IT and SCADA system requirements for new renewable energy projects, including instrumentation, controls, communications, Alarms and Data
- Ensure standardisation of design, equipment and approach across projects and contractors
- Develop strategies for integrating new solar and BESS projects into existing SCADA systems
- On-site inspections and factory witness testing to ensure C&I Design/build is as per specification/design
- Review of as-built drawings at project completion to ensure accuracy and completeness, and are handed over in the correct formats
- Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality at the forefront of all decisions and actions
- Review commissioning plans & procedures produced by contractors.
- Full commission of all equipment with C&I responsibility and Safety
- Final site inspections to ensure specification and build are to expected standards
- Oversee handover into operations, engaging with the wider Infinis C&I, Operations, and IT teams.
- Create commissioning checklists for new systems and ensure all aspects of the project are delivered on time and within scope.
- Capturing and incorporating lessons learned into future projects
What you will bring to the role
- Degree / HND qualified (or equivalent) in an electrical engineering discipline
- Demonstrable expertise working in a safety-driven industry, ideally power generation, utilities or heavy industries
- Project Engineering experience working on larger projects
- Expertise in the specification and integration of Controls and SCADA systems
- Strong people management skills with a solid technical background
- Challenging Costs, Technical solutions and Schedules to drive the project forward
- Ability to concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations, and risk/benefit in written and verbal format to stakeholders and management
- A passion for developing technical solutions and continuous improvements
- Create high-quality documentation with a focus on hazards and risks
- Must be flexible with working hours and willing to travel to sites across the UK
- Have experience working with codes of practice and national and international standards
- Be capable of working to and within the contract
- Flexibility to work across a various range of systems
