Job Summary
As an Electrical Engineer – EV Charging, you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge electrical systems for EV charging infrastructure. This is a dynamic role offering the chance to work on exciting projects nationwide, ensuring the delivery of efficient, scalable, and reliable charging solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project outcomes, adhering to the highest standards of safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development:
- Develop and optimise electrical systems for EV charging stations, ensuring compliance with all relevant electrical standards and regulations.
Technical Expertise:
- Perform electrical load analysis and provide recommendations to enhance energy efficiency and system performance.
Project Implementation:
- Support the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of EV charging infrastructure, troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues as they arise.
Standards Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to industry best practices, including high-voltage and low-voltage electrical standards.
- Liaise with operations teams to ensure that all standards, RAMS, policies, and environmental plans comply with legislation and site-specific requirements.
Documentation:
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including electrical schematics and project reports.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure seamless integration and operation of EV systems.
- Work closely with equipment suppliers, contractors, and DNOs, acting as the technical expert.
Innovation:
- Assist in exploring and implementing smart grid technologies, renewable energy solutions, and battery storage systems.
DNO Process Management:
- Oversee the DNO application process and provide status updates.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in electrical engineering, preferably within the EV charging, power systems, or renewable energy sectors.
Technical Knowledge:
- Proficiency in electrical system design, installation, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with electrical standards such as BS7671, IET Wiring Regulations, and HV/LV standards.
- Understanding of energy efficiency and load management in infrastructure projects.
Certifications:
- City & Guilds 2391 (or equivalent) for electrical inspection and testing.
- SMSTS or other relevant safety certifications.
Desirable Skills & Attributes
- Experience with EV charging infrastructure, including DC fast charging and AC systems.
- Knowledge of renewable energy integration, such as solar panels and battery storage systems.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively within cross-functional teams.
