Research Scientist – Hydrometallurgy
Join the forefront of EV battery recycling, working alongside a team of experts who are passionate about clean technology and pushing the boundaries of innovation.
The Role
As a Research Scientist at Altilium, you’ll be at the heart of advancing EV battery mineral recovery. Using your expertise in hydrometallurgy, you’ll research, refine, and optimise processes that turn end-of-life batteries into valuable materials. You’ll collaborate with engineers and scientists to drive improvements and make sustainable battery recycling commercially viable.
This is a hands-on wet-lab role covering everything from experiment design and execution to data analysis and reporting. Your work will help us develop breakthrough solutions for recycling lithium-ion EV batteries, ensuring high-purity material recovery and a greener future.
What You’ll Do
🔬 Research hydrometallurgy techniques, including leaching, solvent extraction, ion exchange, and crystallisation.
⚙️ Develop and refine processes to extract valuable materials from EV battery waste.
🧪 Plan and run experimental campaigns at our pilot facilities, working closely with engineers.
📊 Analyse data to optimise recovery rates and improve efficiency.
🔍 Design process flow diagrams to streamline recycling operations.
What You’ll Bring
✅ MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
✅ 3+ years of experience in hydrometallurgy.
✅ Strong understanding of leaching, solvent extraction, ion exchange, and precipitation.
✅ Experience in material characterisation techniques and data interpretation.
✅ A hands-on approach—comfortable with designing and building lab equipment.
✅ Clear, confident communicator who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment.
If you’re currently undertaking a PhD with prior experience in metallurgy, this could be a great fit! We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, thrives on problem-solving, and delivers results.
