Role Overview
The purpose of this role is to provide guidance, support and delivery of initiatives to ensure that all applicable activities in NEOM meets required levels of sustainability performance, in areas such as Sustainable Procurement, Circular Economy, Sustainable Design and Decarbonization.

Experience
- 3+ years’ experience across the fields of sustainable built environment planning and design including:
- A broad understanding of sustainability benchmarking and supplier and product assessment and selection
- Sustainability data gathering, analysis and reporting of proponents and supply chains
- Exposure to markets that have a maturity of sustainability performance data and information for materials and products, along with experience of developing proponents and their supply chain
- Experience in supportingthe sustainability performance of supply chains of businesses
- Proven ability to support the company to meet required levels of sustainability performance, in areas such as Sustainable Procurement, Circular Economy, Sustainable Design and Decarbonization.
ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES
Role Specific Accountabilities
The Sustainability Implementation Lead supports the Senior Sustainability Manager with implementation of various Sustainability Initiatives and work programs and is accountable for ensuring all applicable aspects are included in the planning, procurement, design and implementation of applicable NEOM activities. The overall goal is to “shift the dial” on sustainability at NEOM through the assessment and reporting on performance of designs, construction activities, suppliers, materials, products and equipment across the following 3 areas:
People and Culture
- Work collaboratively and engage with relevant sustainability staff and sub-consultants engaged in the preparation of sustainability guidelines, standards, documentation, and project deliverables to support implementation of Sustainability initiatives in NEOM in areas such as Sustainable Procurement, Circular Economy, Sustainable Design and Decarbonization
- Support development of an enabling sustainability culture across stakeholders, suppliers, other departments and teams as required to develop and support the implementation of the NEOM Environment Strategy during strategy, procurement, design, construction and operation phases
- Work collaboratively and engage with relevant stakeholders across NEOM as required using excellent presentation skills including the ability to create up-to-date presentation materials and engaging infographics
Leadership and Advocacy
- Interfaces closely with the internal teams to ensure appropriate, rigorous and timely deliverables for NEOM Department sustainability initiative projects
- Work collaboratively and engage with relevant teams on all NEOM activities’ related environmental and sustainability issues
- Supports leadership, assets owners, tenants, master-planners, procurement professionals, designers, consultants, suppliers and sustainability specialists in the sustainability initiatives and compliance in NEOM.
Sustainability Implementation
- Supports teams as required to enable NEOM to meet required levels of sustainability performance, in areas such as Sustainable Procurement, Circular Economy, Sustainable Design and Decarbonization
- Coordinates the effective, high quality and timely interface in relation to assessment and improvement of environmental and sustainability performance of suppliers, materials, products and equipment
- Monitors the compliance review of sustainability initiatives documentation in accordance with department and relevant NEOM-wide institutional mechanisms, processes and procedures
- Engage with consultants and colleagues in the preparation of sustainability-related standards and guidelines, policies and procedures
- Drives the implementation of best practice and innovation with the objective of achieving NEOM sustainability goals with particular focus on sustainability initiatives relating to Sustainable Procurement, Sustainable Design and Circular Economy
- Monitors continued alignment of NEOM activities with the NEOM sustainability requirements as well as IFC performance standards and world’s best practice.
- Monitors that sustainability issues are effectively implemented during all Corporate Activities and project phases
- Monitors that Supplier, Materials and Equipment Assessments and all other Second Line Corporate Governance Programs are conducted and audit records and reports are compiled, as appropriate.
- Provides technical support and guidance on sustainability related Second Line Corporate Governance Programs within NEOM and to external stakeholders where interface is required (e.g. developers/ consultants/ suppliers).
- Supports with the implementation of sustainability initiatives and communication / educational programs
Stage Gate Reviews
The Sustainability Implementation Lead may also be requested from time to time to undertake Sustainability Compliance Stage Gate Reviews. Key responsibilities of this part of the role include the following:
- Coordination with NEOM Environment Document Controller on the Aconex transmittal filtering process to give guidance on what should and shouldn’t be reviewed
- Undertaking Sustainability Compliance Reviews of Stage Gate submissions for projects across NEOM where required, including completion of CRS forms and sending to Sustainability Manager for QA.
- Update of CRS form as per comments by Sustainability Manager
- Coordination with NEOM Environment Document Controller to transmit CRS form back to Proponent/Region via Aconex.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Provides technical support and guidance related to sustainability within NEOM and to external stakeholders where interface is required (e.g., developers / consultants / suppliers) to ensure required levels of sustainability performance, in areas such as Sustainable Procurement, Circular Economy, Sustainable Design and Decarbonization are met
- Interact and report with department stakeholders in the form of presentations reports and KPI updates the Line Manager and Sector/ Department Head
- Extensive collaboration and sharing of information with agreed internal and external stakeholders
- Represent NEOM in relation to Sustainability from time to time in national and international engagements and conferences.
People / Culture Management
- Contribute to and help maintain a high-performance culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in the team.
- Manage and provide technical input to employees or projects, where necessary.
- Provide leadership to advance programs, practices, and performance.
- Provide regular feedback on performance.
Experience & Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Experience of delivering environmental and sustainability initiatives in a Corporate Environment so that NEOM meets required levels of sustainability performance, in areas such as Sustainable Procurement, Circular Economy, Sustainable Design and Decarbonization
- Experience should ideally span the development life cycle and including the reviewing of technical sustainability documents and assessment of Suppliers’ and Products’ sustainability data.
- Good technical understanding of:
- Environmental Social Governance (ESG) data for suppliers, products and materials,
- How corporations can analyse and improve their own sustainability performance and that of its supply chain
- Sustainable infrastructure rating systems
- Awareness of basic principles of sustainable design and how a stage gate review process is used to carry out compliance with sustainability standards
- Good understanding of environmental and sustainability initiatives in a Corporate Environment
- Strong interpersonal/people skills including:

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability or related Engineering field
- Master’s degree is a plus
- Other qualifications in sustainability
- Professional qualifications and work experience with development and/or implementation of ‘Sustainability Implementation and Accreditation / Certification’
