This role offers the chance to work on exciting and diverse projects that make a positive impact on the environment. As a Consultant Ecologist, you will be responsible for your own projects whilst conducting ecological surveys, preparing technical reports, and providing strategic advice to clients. You will also work closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure that our projects meet both regulatory requirements and our clients’ objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Completing a range of ecological surveys, including protected species surveys and habitat assessments (UK Habitat Classification).
- Preparing comprehensive ecological reports, such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA) Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
- Advising clients on ecological constraints, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
- Working collaboratively with landscape planning and arboriculture teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Supporting the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and planning applications.
- Liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Contributing to fee proposals and tender documents.
What We’re Looking For
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in ecological consultancy or less if the required skills can be demonstrated from other employment.
- Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policies.
- Be a holder of a Protected Species Licence or working towards one.
- Proven experience in conducting and leading a variety of ecological surveys.
- Working knowledge of UK Habitat Classification survey techniques and Statutory BNG.
- Desired experience using QGIS to produce highly accurate digital outputs.
- Excellent report-writing skills with attention to detail and experience of writing PEAs and simple EcIAs.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or working towards it.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.

Salary: £25,590 - £35,830 (plus £3,000 HCLA annually for London) per annum, dependent on experience
