The Head of Systems Engineering is responsible for specifying, designing, overseeing and certifying the correct performance of ALL.SPACE's satellite communication terminals.
ROLES And RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with Product Management to understand the desired terminal features and performance
- Allocate requested features to specific product variants
- Perform a high-level design of the specific products sufficient to:
- Determine the feasibility and predicted performance, by analysis and System modelling
- Decompose the requested feature set in to requirements on specific engineering disciplines
- Negotiate with product management and commercial teams the relative feature priorities
- Define, capture and publish system requirements, allocated to specific engineering disciplines
- Ensure that the wider engineering team are aligned on the product design:
- Design, document, publish and maintain system CONOPS (Concept of Operations)
- Oversee, review and steer technical development
- Identify and resolve gaps or issues as appropriate
- Maintain a register of system technical risks for specific product variants
- Perform activities such as technical investigations, technical spikes or proof of concepts to address technical risks
- Key contribution to System Testing activities, including:
- Defining test cases to be tested
- Reviewing test executions, in particular feature and performance characterisations
- Comparing experimental results to system models, updating modelling technique as needed
- Ensuring that test evidence is collected for certification use
- Ensure terminal performance meets requirements via requisite validation activity
- Own and drive product certification and approvals, with regulatory bodies, satellite operations and other certification authorities
- Create, maintain and publish product documentation, such as operator and installation manuals
Requirements
- Candidate must hold a degree in an Engineering Bachelor, Masters, or Ph.D. program
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment, good cross-functional communication skills
- Team-player, can-do attitude, and ability to work well in a group environment, while still contributing on an individual basis
- High level of self-motivation, enjoys being challenged and learning new skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with changing needs and requirements; ability to meet tough goals under high pressure and manage your time effectively
- An in-depth knowledge of the terminal, in particular the RF, Digital and signal affecting components
- Expert knowledge of Satellite Communications, constellations, modems, and related technologies
- Familiarity with RF, Digital, Software, Hardware, Mechanical and Thermal concerns
- Expertise in document management, particularly specification and requirement artefacts
- Experience in regulatory activities; certification and approvals with third parties
