JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Project Engineer for Software Systems plays a pivotal role in advancing ZIV’s capabilities in delivering Active Network Management systems solutions to its customers. This role is ideally suited for a seasoned engineering professional. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience in software engineering, system integration, and project delivery. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in engineering processes, technical documentation, and project management, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of complex safety-critical software systems.
This is a high-impact position requiring a strong understanding of requirements management, test platforms, system integration, QA, and release processes. The individual will take ownership of critical aspects of the project lifecycle, working closely with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to achieve technical and business objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering and Integration:
- Oversee data engineering processes from field devices to software applications.
- Configure and optimize IT infrastructure for project delivery.
- Interpret client requirements and engineer bespoke solutions with precision and efficiency.
Documentation and Specifications:
- Develop comprehensive Functional and Test Specifications in alignment with client requirements, detailing all necessary steps, parameters, and outcomes to ensure clarity and alignment with project objectives.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, ensuring consistency with engineering best practices.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Lead software integration testing, including component testing, FAT, commissioning, and SAT.
- Document test results and oversee the QA process to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Project Delivery:
- Plan, manage, and execute project activities to meet agreed schedules and budgets.
- Engage with subcontractors and external suppliers for seamless integration of project components.
Client and Technical Support:
- Provide technical leadership during the delivery phase, including software installation and remote support.
- Troubleshoot application and system issues across IT and communication systems, focusing on Linux environments, virtualisation, and networking.
- Offer after-sales support, including troubleshooting, client engagement, and attending in-person meetings.
Standards and Processes
- Contribute to the development and implementation of engineering standards, security policies, and best practices.
- Maintain version control and configuration management for all deliverables.
Mentorship and Team Development
- Act as a mentor to a team of less experienced staff, providing guidance, support, and structured training opportunities.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment that encourages learning and professional growth.
- Lead by example, demonstrating best practices in engineering, documentation, and project delivery.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a profound understanding of engineering processes and exhibit the technical and leadership acumen to manage complex software system projects. Key qualifications and attributes include:
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience: Over 15 years of experience in delivering IT/software/automation systems with a proven track record in requirements management, QA, and release processes.
Technical Expertise:
- Knowledge of server virtualization, web services, Linux OS, and network communications.
- Proficiency with tools such as GIT, JIRA, Confluence, and automation frameworks.
- Knowledge of electricity distribution an advantage.
- Scripting experience beneficial.
- Familiarity with AWS (or similar) environments, including setup and maintenance.

- Strong attention to detail, with a meticulous approach to ensuring accuracy and consistency across documentation, specifications, and implementation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role can be office-based or flexible hybrid with the requirement that the person will attend ZIV's Gateshead office when necessary. There will be occasional travel to supplier or client sites. The candidate should be comfortable working in a dynamic environment that requires flexibility and responsiveness.
REPORTING LINE
The Senior Project Engineer – Software Systems will report directly to the ANM Team Lead and work closely with the Engineering management team.
