Overview Of The Project
Lancaster University’s Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences seeks to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join the laboratory of Dr Federico Rojas for a period of five years on a BBSRC-funded project. This full-time role will ideally begin in
April 2025.
This research will investigate how the NEDD8 pathway regulates differentiation in
Trypanosoma brucei, specifically the transition from replicative slender forms to cell cycle-arrested (G0/G1) stumpy forms, using genetic and proteomic techniques. Identifying novel components of the neddylation machinery will provide valuable insights into trypanosome biology and has the potential to uncover therapeutic targets. Given the distinct evolutionary position of these parasites, our findings will also contribute to understanding ubiquitin-like modification (UBL) regulation across eukaryotic life.
Role Responsibilities
As part of a dedicated team within our Division, you will be responsible for:
- Collecting and analysing data from genetic and proteomic assays
Coordinating experiments focused on the neddylation machinery in
T. brucei
Designing and implementing experimental protocols using cell culture and molecular biology techniques
Mapping and classifying regulatory mechanisms in the differentiation process
Writing up research findings for publication and conference presentations
Assisting in disseminating project outcomes to key stakeholders
Maintaining ethical and quality standards throughout the study
About You
We are interested in hearing from candidates who have:
- A PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field
Experience, ideally with but not exclusively, trypanosome cell biology, quantitative proteomics, or molecular biology
Competency in cell culture techniques and data analysis and interpretation
Hands-on experience in handling mice and conducting infection studies in murine models.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Enthusiasm to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
