Job Title: Sector Manager – Hydrogen & Green Gases
Reports To: Sales Director – UK&I

Location: Knowsley, with UK and Overseas Travel as required
Job Purpose: Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen and other green gases, such as biogas and biomethane, as sustainable power solutions. This role combines strategic market and project development, and technical leadership, requiring a deep understanding of emerging technologies and the evolving energy landscape.
Role and Responsibilities
Sector Leadership:
- Develop and lead Clarke Energy’s Hydrogen and Green Gases business strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and market trends.
- Set short-term and long-term goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and a roadmap for market growth within the hydrogen and green gases space.
- Act as the company’s subject matter expert on hydrogen and green gas technologies, providing leadership in innovation, market positioning, and regulatory trends.
Business Development:
- Identify and pursue business opportunities in hydrogen production, storage, and distribution as well as applications for green gases in power generation.
- Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders including industrial clients, renewable energy developers, government agencies, and technology partners.
- Lead efforts to expand the company’s customer base in industries such as utilities, transportation, and manufacturing, where hydrogen and green gases are viable energy solutions.
Project Development:
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of hydrogen and green gas-related tender responses and proposals, ensuring they are completed on time, and meet technical specifications and commercial requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams to ensure successful deployment of hydrogen and green gas infrastructure projects.
- Implement best practices in project management, risk assessment, and resource allocation to ensure successful project outcomes.
Technical Expertise:
- Provide deep technical expertise in hydrogen production (e.g., electrolysis), hydrogen storage, and green gas applications (e.g., biogas upgrading, power-to-gas technologies).
- Advise on the integration of hydrogen and green gases into existing power generation systems and distributed energy networks.
- Lead feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical evaluations of potential hydrogen and green gas projects.
Market Strategy & Analysis:
- Conduct market research and analysis to track the development of the hydrogen and green gas sectors, regulatory policies, and competitive landscape.
- Develop and execute sector-specific strategies for positioning Clarke Energy as a leader in hydrogen and green gas technologies.
- Identify and capitalize on funding opportunities, incentives, and partnerships that support hydrogen and green gas projects.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, sales and business development professionals within the hydrogen and green gases sector.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence across the team.
- Ensure continuous learning and development within the team to stay ahead of technology trends and regulatory changes.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure that all projects comply with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental requirements related to hydrogen and green gas applications.
- Stay informed of changes in regulatory frameworks, subsidies, and government policies that impact hydrogen and green gas adoption.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage sector budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support business planning and proposal preparation.
- Monitor project and sector financial performance, ensuring that profitability and return on investment (ROI) targets are met.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements across projects and operations.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders in the hydrogen and green gas space, ensuring their needs are met through innovative and sustainable energy solutions.
- Engage with industry forums, conferences, and events to promote Clarke Energy’s expertise and influence policy development in the hydrogen and green gas sectors.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field.
- Previous experience in the energy sector with a focus on hydrogen, green gases, or renewable energy technologies.
- Proven track record in leading large-scale energy projects, particularly in hydrogen production, biogas, biomethane, or other alternative fuels.
- Strong understanding of the technical, regulatory, and commercial aspects of hydrogen and green gas applications.
- Experience in business development, strategic planning, and project management in the energy sector.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
- In-depth knowledge of hydrogen technologies, including electrolysis, fuel cells, hydrogen storage, and transport solutions.
- Familiarity with renewable gas production processes such as anaerobic digestion, biogas upgrading, and synthetic methane.
- Experience in working with regulatory authorities, understanding of environmental policies, and securing project funding and incentives.
- Strong network within the renewable energy, hydrogen, and green gases sectors.
- Financial acumen, with experience of P&L, CAPEX, and OPEX for large energy projects.
